Psalm 89:35-37| King
James Version (KJV)
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
36 His seed shall
endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
37 It shall be
established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
Isaiah 9:6-7| King James Version (KJV)
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the
government will be on is shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince
of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no
end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and
upholding it with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish
this.
Matthew 1:18-21| King James Version (KJV)
18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his
mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found
with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to
make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the
Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not
to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the
Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name
Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
With the scripture
selection of today’s lesson, it feels like Christmas in March! We’re talking
about the promise of the Christ child, who will come and save the world. But,
this is more than just something to think about at the end of the year.
God’s master plan is
being manifest, time after time, just as He promised David…through his lineage,
God will establish an eternal kingdom, which would last forever. We know Jesus
Christ is from everlasting to everlasting.
God is swearing by his
own self-nature because there is nothing higher or greater. He’s confirming
that once he promises, he will not take it back and all prophecies concerning
it will be fulfilled.
Songwriter, Chris
Rice, described it very beautifully in his song, “Welcome to Our World”.
Tears are falling, hearts are breaking, How we need to hear from
God
You've been promised, we've been waiting, Welcome Holy Child
Hope that You don't mind our manger, How I wish we could have known
But long-awaited Holy Stranger, Make Yourself at home
Bring Your peace into our violence, Bid our hungry souls be filled
Word now breaking Heaven's silence, Welcome to our world
Fragile finger sent to heal us, Tender brow prepared for thorn
Tiny heart whose blood will save us, Unto us is born
So wrap our injured flesh around You, Breathe our air and walk our
sod
Rob our sins and make us holy, Perfect Son of God
Welcome to our world
Side Note: When God’s plan is in action, all things work towards the
overall end goal! This is a great way to gauge whether or not something is
heaven-sent and God-meant. Just look at Joseph, he knew what the “law” would
have him do when he found that Mary was already pregnant, but, he covered her,
being led by the Holy Ghost to do so in a dream. Things will work out!
The Bible declares that the choices we make today will affect our children, our grandchildren, and our descendants to come. (Deuteronomy 30:19-20 "I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:") What will be YOUR choice?
